China won't sacrifice self-interest to open up economy - People's Daily
Moments after China's President, Xi Jinping, stated at the Boao Forum that China was willing to open up its economy and also prefers to negotiate instead of brandishing hardline tactics, The People's Daily, China's government-run news agency, quickly made note that China is still very much 'China First'.
The People's Daily noted that while China is dedicated to opening up their economy and easing tariffs across the board, they will not do so at the cost of China's interest, specifically by giving in to anybody's demands. Further, the People's Daily also stated that the decision to open the Chinese economy wider has nothing to do with the current US-China tariff spat and that China will not be offering favorable trade policies to nations that violate WTO rules, which China recently accused the US of in the latest round of tariff threats.
